I have been with MK since December 02 and have finally earned my Red Jacket. I am so proud and have taken pictures, but not to post yet. I have to have someone who knows how to tweek them, and you know who you are.

My children are coming this weekend, and I love it. I cannot wait to see them. You would think that as we get older we would kinda get over it, but we don't. I get so excited and just want to wait on them all weekend and cook everything they like and let them mess up the house. When Micah was little and I lived in Savannah, he would get fingerprints on the sliding glass door and I would leave them there for at least a week after he went back home. Oh the joys of grandmotherhood.

Last Sunday was Fathers Day, so I took a hanging basket to the cemetary for my dad, and a hummingbird feeder filled with nectar to hang on the shepherds hook at my parents gravesite. He will close toward the end of this month. It is not a new house, but has just been refurbished and is beautiful, with lots of new carpet, lots of windows, and a beautiful lot. It even has a Florida Room in the back.

I am always thankful when God allows a member of the family to have a home, not that it is his final home, but a nice place to live till Jesus comes.

He has waited a long time to get this home and I pray that everything will be fine after he moves in. I think we should have a prayer meeting in that house before the furniture is moved in to let Jesus know we are making a Christian House here now. I believe that would make him happy.

Till next time, grammie

Poison Oak, Ivy

Yesterday I was working in the back yard trying to clear small brush and get sticks for my garden. I wanted to stick my beans, as we call it here in Turtletown. My brother was cutting the small brushy trees down and I was cleaning off the limbs so they would be clean to stick in the garden. I am also very allergic to any type poison ivy or oak, and I am very careful not to be around it.

Since I had help with the work, I was not about to say I gotta go when I saw the vine. I just carefully removed it, (I had gloves on) and went on about my business. I must have gotten hot and swiped my gloved hand up my forehead because this morning my eyes were almost swollen shut and I have these tiny blisters on my forehead, no where else on my arms or anywhere just my forehead.

I could put on some blue or purple eyeshadow and look like I had been beaten up.

I love herbs and when someone mentions a remedy I am the first to try, so when my postmistress told me about a (cousin of mine actually) that had a remedy I called. She calls the herb "Jewel Leaf" and she snips it off and chops it and mixes 1/2 leaf and 1/2 70% alcohol. She says this is a sure cure for poison ivy, mosquitto bites or rash. I cannot find jewel lead on the herb site, but I am using it tonite. I will let you know how it works.

P.S. I also went to the doctor

Saturday, June 4, 2005

I have Purple Martin Gourds in my yard this year to protect my garden from pests. The only problem is I don't have any Purple Martins. I have Blue Birds, real pretty blue birds. I have contacted the Purple Martin Forum and have been told not to tear the nests out of the blue birds, to let the nest down slowly after it has an egg in it. I don't know how to know if there is an egg unless I let the nest down. I bought a shepherd's hook as I was told to carefully remove the gourd to the hook and remove it at least 60 feet from the Purple Martin Housing Gourds.

Then you have to buy more gourds and I won't even have any this year, they have all found nesting places by this time and are having their babies and just having a good old time, while I am playing with blue birds and trying not to hurt blue birds, just move them away from my Purple Martin Gourds.

I really thought this was going to be fun, and I guess it is, because as soon as I get up in the morning and get my coffee, I'm in here by the window looking out to see what is happening. I watched the Wednesday nite version of American Idol a lot. Not every time, but when someone reminded me I watched to see who got voted off. I even watched this past Tuesday when no one reminded me. But, alas, last night I forgot and no one, no one called me to remind me. I didn't know till late this afternoon that Idol had even been on and that the shame of it all. These kids could call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will call if they want to talk. We took Gracee the Birthday Girl to Red Lobster, because she adores crab legs. She has broken her left elbow so she had something of a time trying to get to the meat in the crab legs. We helped her.

She turns 10 years on Wednesday, the 18. 10 years old is a difficult time. Just between being a real lady and a little girl. Sometimes she revels in the little girl and then out of the blue, she is a big girl. So mom, dad and brother just have to deal with it, even though brother and dad do not know why. It's a girl thing.

We also went to a strawberry patch this morning for the first time ever and picked 3 gallons of berries then went home and made jam. I had never picked the berries before and it was fun, so if you never have, go do it.

Wednesday, May 11, 2005

We did not have church tonite. Our Pastor had a death in his family. I was planning on going to see my children this next weekend for a 10th birthday party for my granddaughter. I just found out last nite that she has broken her arm, but still wants to go to Red Lobster for Crab Legs. This will be interesting to see how she eats them. She absolutely loves them.

Got over my mullygrubs and planted flowers on Monday.

My first Purple Martins appeared on the scene yesterday and I am so thrilled, almost like a new mom. I got the gourds and my brother installed them for me. Since then we have just watched and cleaned out the gourds when other birds would try to nest in them. The purple martins eat insects, but must feel safe to make their lodging in your yard. Hope they like it here and stay. Their homes are right out my window, so I can watch them when I'm on the computer.

Grammie's Place

This is my first blog post, so here goes.

Today has been Mother's Day, all day long. I have had a good day and a not so good day. I lost my mom this past October and today was just sad. I always planted her flower beds with summer flowers in the front of the house for mother's day, so yesterday I took a shepherd's hook and placed it between the headstone of the gravesite and walkway, centered between her and dad and planted morning glories. If they come up and I trust they will and climb the shepherd hook, they will be beautiful and she will love them.

I am blessed with a beautiful daughter, a wonderful son-in-law and two beautiful grandkids. You know we should be thankful our kids are christians and trying to raise kids in a christian home. That is and will always be my favorite Mother's Day present, just knowing the kids are being raised in a Christian Home, especially in this day and age.

My daughter has called me three times today, I think she can read my mind and when I have the (mullygrubs) down in the dumps, she always seems to know and knows just the right things to say to help.

My granddaughter will be ten on the 18th of this month so I will be visiting them this next weekend, and will have details of our outing to eat and shop.
